Items like gold, diamonds, silver and other precious minerals have been, and in some cases still are, exchanged for goods and services. Natural resources are sometimes categorized as renewable or nonrenewable. Renewable resources are those that can be easily replaced. Bamboo, for example, which grows very quickly, is considered a renewable resource because it can be quickly replenished. Petroleum products are considered nonrenewable resources because it is not replenished after being used. A great deal of research is done in an attempt to create products that are made from and are powered by renewable resources.
