Geophysics is the branch of geology that uses the principles of physics to understand both what has taken place in the past and what is likely to take place in the future. Other important issues such as climate change and global warming are explored based on different theories of geophysics. Because geophysics relies on so many complex theories it is highly dependent upon powerful computers to perform much of the work. Some of the fastest supercomputers in existence have been developed to carry out the work of geophysics.
