By the time of the Greeks and then the Romans, soldiers were outfitted with sophisticated armour and a variety of weapons. The 16th century brought one of the most significant changes in weapons with the introduction of the gun. Later explosive devices came to be used regularly as weapons. Guns continued to evolve over time and into the 20th century. The introduction of airplanes brought a new dimension to the use of guns and explosives. The harnessing of nuclear power to be used as a weapon forever changed the landscape of traditional weapons.
