History of Europe

The history of Europe can be traced back to the ancient civilizations of Greece and Rome. Both of these societies produced many innovative thinkers and artists; some of whose work remains relevant today. In 146 BC the Romans conquered the Greeks and ruled until the fall of the Roman Empire more than 600 years later. The 500 years or so … Keep Reading → following this time is what is known as the Dark Ages in Europe. Later years brought such events as the Crusades, the 100 Years War, and the Bubonic Plague. The Renaissance of 1400 brought about the end of medieval beliefs and a turn to a less restrictive and more positive dialogue. In the eighteenth century the Industrial Revolution began and Europe was impacted by the American Revolution which challenged the rule of the British. A few years later came the French Revolution which dramatically changed the society of France. The nineteenth century brought the writings of Karl Marx and the beginnings of communism. The twentieth century brought, among other significant events, the Russian Revolution and two World Wars.
