The modern day Aboriginal Australians are direct descendants of these first settlers. The islands of Polynesia did not see people settle until much later. It is believed the original descendants of Polynesians came from what is now known as Taiwan. Micronesia, which literally means “small islands,” consists of over 2000 islands spread between the Philippines and Hawaii. It is believed the early settlers came from the area of the Philippines but each of the islands has very different cultures and beliefs.
