The rise of Hitler in Germany and the Second World War thrust the world into chaos once again. When the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor and the United States entered the war, the war was truly a world war. For many, the lingering memory of the war is the horror of the Holocaust. After the war was a growth period in many western nations and the rise of the iron curtain in many Eastern European nations. The cold war was a tense time for many. There were other conflicts, notably the United States conflicts with Korea and Vietnam. The fall of the Berlin Wall signaled the beginning of a new era for many nations.
