By September of 1939 the Second World War had begun. The United States didn’t enter until December 7, 1941 when the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor. World War II resulted in the most deaths of any conflict before or since that time. At least 40 million people were killed during the War. The D-Day invasion of June 6, 1944 is thought to be the turning point of the war. On May 7, 1945 the Germans surrendered and V-E day was officially May 8. It would be more than three months later until the Japanese surrendered after atomic bombs were dropped on Nagasaki and Hiroshima.
