This may happen in college when you get to choose your classes, but often it doesn’t happen until much later. If we are lucky, at some point we start to appreciate that the acquisition of knowledge and wisdom is its own reward. Reading great works of literature or the writings of philosophers and historians helps us to think and grow in ways that wouldn’t otherwise be possible. Of course not all knowledge and wisdom comes in a book. The experience of living and trying new things gives all of us the perspective necessary to make important decisions.
