Environmental law is the branch of law that is concerned with balancing the competing interests of industry and the desire of people and the government to keep the environment clean and safe. Environmental lawyers will be found on both sides of the many issues of environmental law. The EPA will have its own team of lawyers that make sure that the rules are clearly written and enforced when necessary. If action is required to stop acts that are harming the environment the EPA can and will intercede. On the other side, virtually any business whose product impacts the environment will have their own team of environmental lawyers. Examples include automotive companies, oil companies, and energy companies of all kinds. Because environmental law covers global issues such as global warming, there are parts of international law that often overlap.
