Cell Biology

Cell biology is the branch of the life science of biology that studies the workings of cells. Sometimes called cytology, cell biology studies the structure and composition of cells. It also studies the manner in which cells interact with each other as well as with other systems in the body. Cells are examined under a microscope and evaluated … Keep Reading → both for their properties and for differences with other cells. Cell biology can be used to identify different patterns that indicate the presence of disease. It can also be used to test for patterns that indicate the likelihood of disease forming in the future. In such cases, measures can often be taken to prevent or mitigate the effects of a disease. Cell biology is intimately connected with molecular biology, which examines the parts of the cell, and with genetics, which is dependent upon the understanding of cell structure.
