There are two different areas of emphasis in linguistics geography. The first area starts from the geographical perspective and seeks to identify the different languages spoken in all parts of the world. The second area of focus starts from the linguistic perspective and looks to see how language changes in different areas. The differences are subtle. The geographical first perspective may create a map of the world’s languages while the linguistic perspective may examine the different dialects in a specific region.
