It is the job of the radiologist to interpret the pictures to determine the presence of injury or illness. While the X-ray was once the best way to see pictures of the body, many other forms of technology have been created that provide pictures of greater depth and clarity. CT scans and MRI’s are two of the most popular of these advanced forms of technology that the radiologist may use to diagnose patients. Tests performed by a radiologist are almost always noninvasive or minimally invasive. The case of minimally invasive tests may involve injecting a contrast dye to help provide clearer images. Radiology also uses radiation to treat disease; as in the case of the treatment of various forms of cancer.
