Aristotle was the third of the three classic philosophers of ancient Greece. He came after Socrates and Plato. Aristotle studied directly under Plato and was considered by Plato to be the best of his students. Despite this relationship, Aristotle often disagreed with the teachings and philosophy of Plato. Aristotle was famous for his empirical study method where he would observe behavior and write down his thoughts and evaluations. He did this across many different subject areas and this is demonstrated in the wide range of his writings. Perhaps the greatest achievement of Aristotle is that the much of the work he created is as relevant today as the day it was written. His classic book poetics is considered by many experts to be the greatest work ever written on the dramatic form.
