Kant argued that our view of the world should not be shaped by reason or experience. To do that, Kant argued, we operate under a set of assumptions as to how to best understand something. Kant’s critical philosophy sought to turn this process upside down. We shouldn’t evaluate the world based on specific criteria such as reason or experience; we should allow our conceptual philosophy to determine how we experience the world. Critical philosophy allows for each experience to be evaluated by the criteria that are appropriate to that experience. Not only is the experience questioned, but the method of evaluation is questioned as well.
