Hindu philosophy is not one separate philosophy but rather, it is made up of the different schools of Hindu philosophy that had their origins in India. Purvamimamsa is a highly ritualistic philosophy that espouses action leading to freedom. The concept of Karma came from its teachings. Sankhya is designed to provide a framework for the understanding of the Vaisheshika, Nyaya, and Purvamimamsa schools. Yoga is focused on the inner state of being. Vedanta is concerned with focusing on issues of self. All six areas accept the teachings of the Vedas. The earliest works in the school of Hindu philosophy were oral so it is not clear exactly when they started. It is estimated though, that the practice of Hindu philosophy goes back at least 5000 years.
