Most people are familiar with the name of Socrates. He is a legendary figure in the study of ancient Greece and philosophy. In these dialogs the teacher continuously asks questions of the students to force them to justify the logic of their argument. This became known as the Socratic Method and is used in most law schools today. In 399 Socrates was convicted of corrupting the minds of the youth of Athens and executed. Plato wrote of the trial and execution in his work, Apology. Plato went on to write many legendary works of philosophy. He is most closely associated with the school of rationalism. He is perhaps best known for his classic of philosophy and political science, The Republic.
