Fluid Mechanics

Fluid mechanics, also known as hydrodynamics studies the properties of fluids such as liquids and gases. Things looked at include pressure, velocity, density as well as temperature of the fluids. Fluid mechanics is often divided into the study of fluid dynamics and fluid statics. These represent fluid in motion and fluids not moving … Keep Reading → respectively. The beginnings of fluid mechanics can be found in the works of Archimedes in ancient Greece. The core principles of fluid mechanics are the concepts of the conservation of mass; the conservation of momentum; and the continuum hypothesis. Because calculations in fluid mechanics can be highly complex the study is highly dependent on computers. Fluid dynamics is used in a number of engineering disciplines. It has practical application in many areas including understanding how to maximize the effectiveness of different fluids as energy sources.
