History of Physics
The history of physics is rooted in the desire of people to explain the world around them. Many of the early concepts were the work of the ancient Greeks. Because much scientific discovery is based on available technology many of the early ideas were incorrect. Even the most brilliant thinkers of early Greece believed that the universe revolved … Keep Reading → around the earth. In the 16th century the work of Galileo helped to perfect the telescope and allow for physical examination of the solar system. Around the same time, Blaise Pascal was formulating “Pascal’s Principle.” Shortly after that time the work of Isaac Newton helped expand the knowledge and understanding of physics with his theories including the explanation of gravity. In the 19th century Carl Friedrich Gauss made his many brilliant contributions to physics including his electrostatic laws and potential theory. Albert Einstein was the dominant figure in physics in the 20th century.
