Isaac Newton, for example, made numerous significant contributions to mathematical physics including his invention of calculus and Newton’s method. Other prominent figures include Lord Kelvin, with his work in thermodynamics; Carl Friedrich Gauss with his work on geometry and magnetism and, of course, Albert Einstein with his theory of relativity. Mathematical physics also played a vital role in the development of quantum theory. Most of the great discoveries and innovations in physics would not be possible without the mathematical formulas that are so critical to the process.
