Mechanics
Mechanics is the branch of physics that studies the effect of physical forces on objects. The pioneer in the field of mechanics was Isaac Newton. Newton’s three laws of motion provided the framework for understanding the process of how objects are impacted by forces. The theory of mechanics is divided between the study of statics, which … Keep Reading → refers to the state of equilibrium; dynamics, which refers to the motion that is caused by the forces; and kinematics, which studies motion without consideration of the forces present. Kinematics uses mathematical formulas to describe motion. The work of Isaac Newton was expanded on by the theory of quantum mechanics as well as Einstein’s theory of relativity. The principles of mechanics are useful in every area of life. From machines, to nature, to the workings of the human body the understanding of mechanics is essential to our existence.
