Wave Mechanics and Waves

Wave mechanics is the name given to the area of physics known as mechanics when evaluating it based on the behavior of waves. The concept of wave mechanics started in 1923 when a graduate student named Louis de Broglie answered the question of the particle-wave duality. He suggested that particles and waves were both demonstrating the same … Keep Reading → behavior; just from a different view. He was awarded the Nobel Prize for Physics in 1929 for his work. A few years later Erwin Schrodinger would introduce his theory. The Schrodinger Equation, as his work was called, expanded on the theory of quantum mechanics to describe the behavior of atoms as interactions between waves; specifically particle waves. Wave mechanics is useful in tracking a wide range of activities. Many geological studies of natural phenomena such as earthquakes and volcanoes are understood and monitored through the use of wave mechanics.
