The characters of mythology are often larger than life figures with supernatural powers. Myths were commonly used to fill a void created by a lack of understanding of how much of the universe works. Characters in mythology provide an explanation for events that could not be logically explained. Ideas of love, sex, music, war, fire, rain, and many other concepts were much more easily understood and explained through the acts of mythological characters. Mythology still exists as a significant part of the culture of many nations.
