In the early 20th century large numbers of people came from Europe because of the hope the America offered of prosperity. Later years saw many people leave countries in Asia, Africa, and Central and South America. Again, the prospect of the opportunity that America was known for was the appeal. Some people do change countries for other reasons. Sometimes the reason is as simple as a career move or falling in love with someone from another country.
