Before Lenny Bruce the idea of what was funny was mostly innocent silly fun. Bruce brought forth the era of observational comics who spoke honestly and graphically about their thoughts. Richard Pryor and George Carlin were among the best of this type. What is considered funny will always be changing. Comedians as well as television and movies are a product of their time and era. Occasionally someone like Lenny Bruce comes along and changes the status quo.
