Regional Humor
It has been said that nothing is as funny as the truth. It is from this spirit that much of regional humor derives. Regional humor is usually characterized by jokes about particular geographical areas. The jokes are typically bases on stereotypes regarding the area. Regional humor takes these stereotypes and goes to funny and often ridiculous … Keep Reading → extremes to exaggerate the traits identified with the area. One example of regional humor is comedian Jeff Foxworthy and his many jokes about “rednecks.” Foxworthy starts his joke with the phrase “You might be a redneck if”… and then comes the punchline. Those who can remember Bob and Doug McKenzie from the 1980’s will recall another example of regional humor. Canada was the victim in this case with the fictional brothers hitting on virtually every stereotype about the country and its people. As with all types of humor, regional humor is subjective. Where you are from and what you think about other areas will influence what you think is funny.
