Slapstick comedy treats violence in an almost comic book like manner. Violent acts may take place, but we don’t see any kind of suffering. Some other early pioneers of the slapstick form were the Marx Brothers, Laurel and Hardy, and the Three Stooges. Many of the films of Jim Carey represent modern versions of the classic slapstick form. The screwball comedy is a version of slapstick that is often focused on absurd romantic circumstances.
