Blockbusters and Flops

While blockbuster movies get the attention over the long haul, in the short run critics seem to enjoy discussing the flops just as much. Every year end list of the best and most successful movies is also accompanied by a list of some of the year’s … Keep Reading → flops. That’s not to say that blockbuster movies don’t get their proper respect. Movies such as Avatar, Titanic, and Lord of the Rings have all made over one billion dollars and people continue to enjoy them in the comfort of their homes on DVD. Other movies such as The Harry Potter films and several of the Star Wars movies have also achieved huge box office numbers. Then there are the flops. There have been lots of bad movies, but part of the definition of a flop is that there was some expectation that the movie would be successful and/or that it had a very big budget. Movies such as Ishtar and Heaven’s Gate come to mind. Unfortunately Kevin Costner makes the list twice with the flops Waterworld and The Postman.
