Whatever the reason for them being made there have been independent films that became both critical and financial successes. Given the often miniscule budgets of these films that represents quite an achievement. Directors such as Steven Soderbergh, Quentin Tarantino, Spike Lee, and Kevin Smith, achieved mainstream success through their independent films.
