The black experience was a difficult one and blues music was representative of that. While many people may find blues music hard to define; it is also easily recognizable. Some of the early pioneers in blues music were Robert Johnson and Charlie Patton. In later years, when electric instruments became available, the electric blues brought some of the brilliant blues musicians into the public eye. Legends such as John Lee Hooker, Muddy Waters, and B.B. King became known and respected around the world.
