Woody Guthrie was another of the early folk singers who helped to bring the style popularity with his focus on social causes and political awareness. Seeger and Guthrie laid the foundation for later artists such as Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, and Joni Mitchell. It is the poetic works of Dylan that many people associate with the revolutionary folk music of the 1960’s. Artists such as Simon and Garfunkel as well as The Mamas & The Papas brought elements of folk music to their contemporary styles to create some of the most popular music of the 1960’s and 1970’s.
