The British invasion of the 1960’s was clearly another turning point. Groups such the Beatles and Rolling Stones helped to solidify rock music as a form that had commercial viability. Rock music has gone through many different eras and phases. There has been the surfer music made famous by The Beach Boys, the blues influenced rock of Eric Clapton, the classic rock of Led Zeppelin and The Who, and the heavy metal and hair bands of the 1980’s.and 1990’s. The styles may change but the underlying motivation of music as a means of expression and independence has always been at the heart of rock music.
