World music is more than simply music from around the world. The category of world music is used to describe music that is unique in the way it conveys something about a particular culture. World music allows us to gain an understanding of a culture by listening to music that has been made as a direct result of those cultural influences. Reggae may be rightly considered to be a form of world music because it is a distinctly Jamaican style that that has been influenced by the history of the country.
