Depending on the time and place of the production the costumes may be simple or elaborate. The costume designer must do all appropriate research to assure that the costumes are appropriate to the needs of the show. Additionally, the costume designer needs to make sure that the actors are fitted properly and that all of the costumes are created in time for the performance. As costumes will inevitably be damaged at some point, having enough in reserve is very important as well.
