The belly dancing that we are familiar with, the kind with the extreme hip movements and skimpy costumes, is known as the Turkish style. There is another style from Egypt that is much more modest in both dress and movement. Egyptian belly dance is usually done in private and only for family members. In some countries male belly dancers are as common as female dancers.
