On a local level the news keeps us up to date on the various issues that relate to our towns and cities. The impact of the internet has changed the TV news. Unlike in the past, people are often already aware of major events before the evening broadcast of the news. Still, the news can offer a level of coverage and detail that the internet does not. While it may be different, the TV news is still important.
