If Survivor was a hit show then American Idol was a cultural phenomenon. The show which was based on a similar hit show in the UK started off modestly but within a couple of years it was the most watched show on television. Singers from the show such as Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood and Chris Daughtry have gone on to be among the most successful recording artists. Later reality shows such as Dancing WithThe Stars, The Apprentice, and America’s Next Top Model continued the trend. There is no sign of it slowing down.
