Many third world countries for example won’t eat types of fish or even vegetables because of fears about the cleanliness of the water. Taboos for food are not limited to just the food itself. Many cultures have taboos regarding when certain foods can be eaten and under what circumstances they are allowed. Certain holiday festivals, for example, contain foods that are not allowed to be eaten the rest of the year. Food taboos are generally known by members of specific cultures. When traveling to foreign locations it’s always a good idea to do a bit of research and see what the local customs are.
