While we may associate lamb and sheep wool with the Aussies and New Zealanders, it is in fact China that produces the most sheep in the world. Other countries with significant numbers of active farms include Canada, England, Ireland, and Germany. There are many other countries all over the world that have large numbers of small local farms. Most of these farms operate on a subsistence level so the farming family can survive. In some cases the small farms serve local towns and villages as well, but they are typically not thriving businesses.
