The other kind of specialty shop is the store that specializes in one type of food. These are the butcher shops, the seafood markets, the cheese shops, and other similar stores that specialize in specific food types. They have the benefit of offering the largest selection and the store owners are usually very knowledgeable about the products being sold. These individual shops were much more common in the past. The popularity of the multi-purpose food stores along with the high cost of retail space has made it difficult for the smaller shops to survive. Where they still exist though, they are usually the best foods that can be found.
