Beef is very common, as are other types of meat including veal, lamb, and chicken. Most meals feature a combination of meats, potatoes, and a variety of dairy products. Pasta in Russian cuisine usually means something like dumplings filled with meat or cheese. Russian cuisine has a long tradition of large soups and stews that are hearty enough to be complete meals by themselves. Russian cuisine also puts an emphasis on rich, pastry like desserts that are considered an important part of the meal.
