Jerk spices are commonly put on chicken and other meats that are grilled to a delicious smoky perfection. It is not uncommon to find restaurants in the U.S. offering Jamaican jerk style dishes. While jerk style food may be the most famous of Jamaican cuisine, it isn’t the only part of it. French, Spanish, African, and Chinese influences have combined to create a cuisine that takes advantage of the wide variety of tropical fruits in the area. Meats and fish are combined with the fruits and unique spice combinations to create classic Jamaican cuisine. Curried meat and fried plantains are just two examples of the wide range of styles in Jamaican cuisine.
