The firing mechanism can be spring powered or in some cases it can be powered by gas or electricity. Airsoft guns are typically modeled after popular types of guns. They can be any size and type of gun from a small pistol to a large automatic weapon with magazine attachment. Similar to paintball, there are recreational clubs and organizations that have Airsoft competitions. It is not uncommon for many of the competitions to be staged in a simulated military environment.
