Rivalries such as Ohio State versus Michigan on the college level and Green Bay versus Detroit on the professional level go back literally decades. Generations of families have watched those games and cheered on their favorite teams. Football is like that. It is a traditional game. Fans rarely switch loyalties. The team one roots for is all but pre-ordained before birth based on the loyalty of the previous generations. That loyalty is a big reason for the enduring popularity of the sport.
