In 1959 the legendary Vince Lombardi became head coach of the Green Bay Packers. In 1967 the NFL played against the rival AFL in what was called the AFL-NFL World Championship Game. When the leagues merged three years later this game would become what we know today as the Super Bowl. The league has had its difficult moments, including work stoppages, but it sits firmly today as the most popular of all sports in America.
