So when we read about a player signing a 5 year contract for millions of dollars, it is misleading. The team can release the player at any time and no further money will be owed. Because of this players are always one serious injury away from being out of the league. NFL players may make a lot of money, but they have awful job security. They are beloved by millions of fans; but it’s a tough job.
