Tennis matches take place throughout the year, but the most prestigious are the Grand Slam Events which include Wimbledon, the French Open, the Australian Open, and the U.S. Open. Those who have not seen tennis before will take note of the interesting surfaces of some courts. Wimbledon is played on a grass court and the French Open is played on a clay court. The surface of the court dictates the speed of the game and some players do better on certain types of courts. Tennis is one of the few sports where men and women compete during the same tournament; though they do not compete against each other.
