For those who are too young to remember, this was long before options such as pay per view on cable and satellite networks. VCR’s came in two different formats. There was VHS and Beta. Though Beta was considered to be the superior technology, it was VHS that ended up as the winner of the format wars. Much like 8 track tapes, Beta went away. In time new technology such as DVD and later Blu-Ray made the VCR much less desirable. Many people still have large numbers of VHS tapes and VCR’s are still commonly found in many homes, but it’s only a matter of time before they become obsolete.
