Computer Speakers and Sound Cards
Computer speakers and sound cards are not necessary for computers to function. With the way computers are most commonly used though, the speakers and sound card are very important. Most of us are familiar with what speakers do. We have speakers on our televisions, in our cars, on our radios, and in other devices as well. Speakers take audio … Keep Reading → signals that they receive and put them out in a form that we can hear and understand. The role of the sound card in computers is to take the data that is input in analog form and convert it to digital form so it can be output by the speakers. Many computers don’t actually come with separate sound cards, but simply have the technology built into the motherboards. Those that want sound capability beyond the basic features of the “on board” sound may choose to add a separate sound card. This often allows for a better listening experience with video games and hi –definition audio sources. Sound cards also allow for inputting sound into various computer programs. This typically uses an external microphone that plugs into the sound card.
