It is believed that primitive forms of computers have been around for thousands of years. Basic tools that were used for calculations are known to have existed for at least 3000 years. Babbage was later joined by Ada Byron Lovelace who was credited with writing the first computer program. This work of Babbage and Lovelace is considered to be the beginning of the development of the modern computer. It was during World War II that the first fully programmable computers were created to analyze coded messages. In the 1970’s and 1980’s Apple and IBM led the way of offering computers to consumers for general use. With the small and incredibly powerful computers we all have today it can be easy to forget that just a few years ago no one even knew what a computer was.
