Subsequent versions became more popular and by 1990 Windows 3.0 was finally getting some recognition as a quality GUI operating system. Windows has developed several new versions of the software over the years; some have been critically acclaimed and others (Vista for example) have been maligned. Through it all Windows became and remains the most popular operating system in the world.
